Rolleston is a pretty, rural village in the middle of Nottinghamshire. The village boasts an attractive twelfth century Grade 1 listed church with an unusual 6-bell peal. The Church website has details of the village history at https://www.rollestonchurch.org.uk

Rolleston is located three miles east of Southwell and five miles south-west of Newark and is around a 40 minute drive from Nottingham city centre with public transport links available such as Rolleston Train Station.

Nearby is the historic town of Southwell renowned for its beautiful Minster; the Saracen’s Head, where King Charles 1 spent his last night of freedom before surrendering to Puritan allies in 1646; and the birthplace of the famous Bramley Apple.

Kate Greenaway

Rolleston is also closely linked with Kate Greenaway, the Victorian children's illustrator who spent many of her childhood summer holidays staying with relatives in the village.

  • Local attractions include Southwell racecourse, an all-weather track situated on the fringes of the village and Southwell. There is also an 18 hole golf course https://www.southwell-racecourse.co.uk
  • There are direct links to Nottingham city centre in the form of Rolleston Train station which has regular trains to and from the city taking around 30 minutes either way. There is also a bus route that passes through the centre of the village taking you to either Southwell or Newark
  • This is of course Robin Hood country, with Sherwood Forest, its Visitor Centre and famous Major Oak, is almost within an arrow flight of the village https://sherwoodforest.org.uk For keen walkers, the Trent Valley Way runs through the parish, with its many historic traces of the Civil War https://www.trentriverstrust.org/what-we-do/connecting-people-and-the-river/trent-valley-way/
