Rolleston Village is closely linked with Victorian children's illustrator Kate Greenaway, who spent many of her childhood summer holidays staying with relatives in the village.
It was this area that Kate Greenaway loved so well and depicted in her artwork. Her love for flowers grew out of the many gardens she saw here taking a special liking to the neatly tended and tidy gardens. The clothes worn by the local children appealed to her, and the delightful pictures she drew of them led to children everywhere being dressed in a similar fashion to the children of Rolleston.
